Packs Designed at Race Pace
Adventure racing punishes gear that is not up to the job. Multi-day stages through jungle, alpine, and desert terrain demand a pack that rides steady through paddling transitions, stays secure on technical scrambles, and gives you instant access to mandatory equipment when race officials call for a gear check. That is the world OutThere USA was built for.
Our founder, Mike Kloser, is a three-time Adventure Racing World Champion and one of the most experienced expedition racers on the planet. He has raced on every continent, from the jungles of Borneo to the mountains of Patagonia. Every product in this collection reflects lessons learned across thousands of race miles. Mike does not design from a desk. He builds prototypes, races them to failure, redesigns in the field, and repeats until the pack performs as well at mile 400 as it does at mile one.
Built for Every Stage
The WC-30 is our flagship adventure racing pack and Mike's go-to for expedition-length events. At 30 liters it carries everything a team of four needs for a 24-hour stage: hydration, nutrition, maps, headlamps, mandatory safety kit, and spare layers, all organized for quick transitions between trekking, paddling, and mountain biking legs. The padded hipbelt transfers load off your shoulders on long trail sections, and the streamlined profile avoids snags in dense vegetation. When the race throws something unexpected at you, the WC-30 has room to adapt without slowing you down.
For shorter stages and sprint-format AR events where speed trumps volume, the HP-1 Hip Pack strips the kit list to essentials. It locks to your waist and keeps gels, a soft flask, compass, and emergency whistle within reach. No fumbling with shoulder straps during flat-out running legs. The low-bounce design means you can sprint a transition zone without readjusting.
Every pack in this collection shares the DNA that comes from racing at the sharp end: durable materials that survive bushwhacking, drainage points for river crossings, and attachment systems tested in race conditions, not just a lab. When your team's result depends on your gear, race what the champions race.
